MY name is Sanjeev Korti and my blog is about FORT Songadh. The purpose behind Writing this blog is no much information is available on This Fort.
The Songadh Fort was built by the founder of the Gaekwad dynasty, Pillaji Rao Gaekwad between 1729-1766. Built deliberately on top of the high hill as a vantage point to keep an eye on enemies, the fort is also a brilliant example of
Ancient architecture where influence of both Mughals and Marathas are evident.
There are not much Forts built in Gujrat State.Maharashtra is having lot of f orts because of its geographical postion. Maharashtra is guarded by Sahyadri mountains. So the Forts are in maharashtra is very difficult to treak where as this songadh fort doesnot have much height and its take hardly half an hour to reach at the top of the fort
Location : 90Kms from SURAT Dist( state Gujrat, India), THis for is located between SURAT - vyara - DHULIA Road.
How To Reach : Nearest Big City is Surat. from Surat either you can take a train ( only passenger train halts at Fort Songadh station.) else Gujrat transport BUS service is quick and have more frquency. You can catch any maharashtra bus going towards dhule via Navapur ( first city after crossing Gujrat border, which is just 25kms away from Songadh )
Songadh is having 25 - 30,000 population. City is cituated surrounding to the fort.
You have to get down at songadh Bus stand and start walking for FORT. at the base of the fort you need to cross Railway Line (see in the pic) and start climbing the fort.
We started climbing the fort. My brother in law cum my guide Prasad heading ahead of me towards the fort
while climbing on fort we found two hidden undergroud well build cannons , u can see in below pictures
